I'm in a 8-man roster "Salary Cap" League...my pitchers are having problems right now, at least thats what i think...do YOU think these pitchers are good enough??!!? .. if not, what move should i make to get at LEAST ONE better pitcher..and which pitcher?
Here's the team I got right now...
P Liriano, Francisco $6,640,000
P Hamels, Cole $950,000
P Billingsley, Chad $880,000
C Laird, Gerald TEX $1,680,000
CI Pujols, Albert STL $10,210,000
OF MI Soriano, Alfonso $7,580,000
OF CI Berkman, Lance$7,210,000
OF Wells, Vernon $7,000,000
WHAT MOVE SHOULD i MAKE?
hamels, billingsley need to go...there are better options. reyes (cardinals) has been pitching well. josh johnson (marlins) has been really good too.
catcher position typically doesn't produce much offense. so if you're going to go cheap there, try damian ross, olivo or johjima for a little more money.
you got tons of money geared towards hitting....soriano is very streaky and right now he is ice cold. ibanez is a solid cheaper option for OF. if you want some MIs, you can take a look at iguchi, sanchez (pirates), and ramirez( marlins) who's starting to hit again. if you can save some money here but still have solid hitters, you can upgrade your rookie pitchers.
Reply:i think you should thinkl about what the heck you are doing on the face of this planet, bacause there are some normal humans
that don't want you here.
Reply:Trade Billingsley for Bronson Arroyo or Hudson from the Braves. Billingsley is your weak point. So if you see an opportunity to trade him, go for it.
Reply:pretty good but.................trade Hamels and Billingsley for Bronson Arroyo and Chris Capuano.also trade Laird for Nick Swischer. and if you wanna you could probly trade Pujols for Ryan Howard who has 27 homers and about 70 RBI's right now
Reply:get rid of billingsley and hamels they are not going to help you at all
Reply:Adding to other comments, I would get rid of Billingsley, Wells AND Laird. Laird only plays against LHP so you are missing alot of AB's from the catcher spot.
Reply:I love when people offer advice on who to trade for. Brilliant people. Really. Who in the hell would accept Laird for Swisher. Yeah, while you're at it, why don't you trade Billingsley and Hamels for J Santana and Papelbon. Please people, don't give advice that makes no sense.
Since you are in a Salary Cap league, which obviously some of you don't realize, means you can pick up ANY player and that more then 1 team can have Pujols, Papelbon, etc. and therefore CANT TRADE ANYONE!!!!!!!!
I would personally keep Wells over Berkman (in Yahoo general leagues, Wells is ranked 11 while Berkman is ranked 19, a little more for your money)and look to pick up someone like Curtis Granderson, drop either Hamels or Billingsley (probably Hamels) and pick up a much better starter. I don't know how much the pitchers are going for in your league, but you the difference between Wells and Granderson I would imagine is about $4 mil. Try to buy low on someone like Brandon Webb or even Clemens as they both have been struggling recently. Also, I would look to pick up catcher Ross from Cinci as he has recently taken the #1 spot and is playing very well (.311 avg, probably cheaper then Laird)
Do you only have 8 players on your team or are these the only players you don't have good value on? The issue with salary cap leagues is really staying on top of who is hot and always trying to buy low.
Reply:Vernon Wells for $7,000,000 seems a tad pricy to me especially whn u have Pujols, Soriano and Berkman. try to get Gary Matthews Jr. from the Rangers, hes batting ovr 330 and has decent power and will get his fair share or RBIs. or Nick Swisher of the Oakland A's is also a good OF pick up. and thn pick up for ur pitcher Chris Capuano of the Milwaukee Brewers, hes a very safe, solid guy to sign, hes pitched into the 6th inning or better in his last 14 starts and he gets a very good # of K's . get rid of Billingsley tho, guy won;t do much.
